Michael Moon Mullen has been bringing his high-energy style of Appalachian folk and original music to local pre-k through 6th grade students for over 35 years. As an Artsbridge catalog artist since 1986, Moon has shared songs (with lots of audience participation), quirky stories, multiple acoustic instruments, (guitar, banjo, dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica, mouth bow, a variety of percussion instruments)…and an occasional square dance with over 25,000 youngsters.

In advance of presentations, school and music educators receive a 20 minute video that Moon produced, “Folkwise: An Appalachian Musical Experience” and audio materials to prep students.

In addition to all-school presentations being available, the last two years have necessitated smaller classroom settings. Multiple schools and music educators have utilized this mini-artist in residence format, where students have the opportunity to “play” a variety of musical instruments and participate in sing-alongs with an up close and personal experience.

Music Standard: Relating: Understand music in relation to history and culture. Exploring: Listen to, analyze and describe types of music.
